M.Sc. Dairy Science (DS)

Dairy Science – an international Master’s Program on dairy production, economics and food at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel

The Master’s program “Dairy Science” focuses on the interdisciplinary aspects of on-farm milk production, dairy economics, and processing of dairy food and products. The study program imparts the most current scientific knowledge in dairy production, including eco-efficiency, economics, breeding, ruminant nutrition, animal welfare and health, milking technology, processing and quality of dairy products, and it conveys methodological skills to teach students to work scientifically and systematically. Students will strengthen their competences in the field of dairy science and acquire skills in analytical understanding of the entire dairy production process chain.

The application period for the academic year 2024/25 will open on Feb 01, 2024. The deadline to submit your documents through uni-assist will be Mar 15, 2024 (23.59 CEST)

Master’s program Dairy Science

The Dairy Science study program is intended for students who hold a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or in a related field and have an interest in a consecutive, multidisciplinary qualification with focus on dairy science. The program includes relevant topics from several disciplines of the Faculty of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences such as plant production, animal science, human nutrition, and economics. The program did replace our attractive former certificate on dairy science, now with a new structure and fresh contents, it will encompass an international Master’s degree. Classes will be held in English and are open for students from all over the world with interest in dairy science.

Career perspectives

The international Master’s program imparts a reasonable mix of applied knowledge and fundamentals, and prepares students for a broad spectrum of job positions. Graduates will be qualified to take leading positions in national and international operating companies in the field of dairy production and marketing, to participate, e.g., in product development, enhancement of technologies and methods, or to begin a doctoral course and a scientific career at university.
