Finishing your PhD
Finishing your PhD:
After passing the doctoral examination (disputation), you have twelve months to publish your dissertation via the University Library. If your dissertation is not ready for publication, this must be obtained in advance within the specified period and confirmed by your supervisor by email to the Dean's Office.
You can read about the possible types of publication of a dissertation and other requirements in the AEF's doctoral degree regulations. For archiving reasons, the paper copies of your dissertation must be printed on acid-free and age-resistant paper and bound without the use of metal or plastic parts. A perfect-bound brochure and double-sided printing are desirable. The choice of format (DIN A4 or DIN A5) is free, as is the choice of black and white or colour printing.
Details on publishing your dissertation via the University Library can be found on their website.
To publish your dissertation, please first contact the Dissertation Centre of the University Library. After you have submitted and published your dissertation there, the University Library will confirm this to you and the Dean's Office of the AEF by email.
As soon as you have received confirmation from the University Library, you can make an appointment with the Dean's Office to hand in the printed copies of your publication and collect your doctoral degree certificate. If you would like an English translation of your doctoral degree certificate, you must inform the Dean's Office in accordance with the doctoral degree regulations.
The doctoral procedure is completed upon submission of the copies of the dissertation and receipt of the doctoral degree certificate and you are entitled to use the doctoral title.
